Soheil Torabnejad
I am Soheil Torabnejad, an Iranian artist born in 1985. I studied carpet design at university, and that foundation in pattern, colour and traditional craft still runs through everything I make.
For years I have worked across painting, sculpting, patina art and carpet design — moving between surfaces and materials, but always guided by the same instinct for texture, rhythm and form.
In 2023 my wife and I, both artists, immigrated to Austria. Today I work from my studio in Klagenfurt, bringing ideas to life through painting and turning them into three-dimensional sculptures.
Approach
Material
Acrylic, oil, canvas, metal and found surfaces — chosen so the work can carry both colour and physical weight.
Method
Each piece grows through layers: drawing, underpainting, texture and finish. Paintings and sculptures often begin from the same sketch or idea.
Subject
Abstract and figurative forms, patina surfaces and carpet motifs — images that move between two and three dimensions.
